Nearly 16 million people around the world are now on HIV treatment, the United Nations AIDS program announced Tuesday. Since the peak of the epidemic in 2000, the rate of new HIV infections has dropped by about 35 percent. The UN report found that 35 countries bear the burden of 90 percent of HIV infections, meaning continued focus on these countries will have the greatest future impact.
