#StyleHack: The Answer to Clean Shoes Is In Your Makeup Bag

As a stylist I am always trying to find quick solutions to last minute fashion emergencies. One night while I was rushing to a get a pop star out the door for an awards show, I wanted his shoes to look perfectly shined. But who carries shoe polish? Instead, I grabbed a mini bottle of moisturizer from the hotel bathroom and shined those puppies right up. It worked perfectly. Think about it: moisturizer softens your skin and leather is animal skin. Now I only use drugstore moisturizers to shine my leather shoes — from super dressy ones to my sneakers. It’s cheaper than shoe polish and it doesn’t have that toxic chemical smell. And for those super worn in boots that you just can’t say goodbye to? Kill two birds with one stone and spruce them up with a scented moisturizer.
