A new gadget called #TheSelfie is the perfect holiday gift for the selfie-centered

Got a selfie-obsessed friend you're shopping for this holiday season? We just might have the perfect gift.

Smartphone accessory maker Gabba Goods has developed a gadget to help iPhone owners take the best solo and group selfies possible, without having to hold onto their phones and awkwardly tap the on-screen shutter button. Called #TheSelfie (hashtag included in product name), the gadget looks like a weapon detonator from a Cold War spy movie, or an old-school remote shutter release. #TheSelfie's cable plugs into the headphone socket on any iPhone, iPad or iPod touch model; a button on top of the detonator takes a photo either in the Apple camera or in several different iOS camera apps, like Instagram or Snapchat.

#TheSelfie comes in a bevy of colors, including black, white, pink, lime green and purple. It costs $19.99 and is available either online or from select retail stores, a list of which you can find on #TheSelfie website.

Selfies, of course, are so hot right now: Selfie-centered Snapchat just turned down a $3 billion acquisition offer from Facebook, while the word "selfie" itself was just crowned as Word of the Year by the Oxford Dictionaries. (For those not in the know: A selfie is "a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.")

Of course, #TheSelfie is merely the best option for those not hard-core enough to carry around a tripod and RF remote shutter like this one manufactured by Xcsource. So, the question you have to ask yourself is: How serious are you about selfies? As serious as this dog?

You can see #TheSelfie in action on the "Today" show right here, at around the 3:30 mark.
