SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) — The Skat River has burst its banks in northwestern Bulgaria following weeks of torrential rain, killing one person and forcing authorities to evacuate hundreds.

Hundreds of properties have been swamped on Sunday in Misia, the worst-hit city.

The situation in the area remains critical. Interior Minister Tsvetlin Yovchev says two dams have been overflowing through their spillways.

Heavy rain has hit this Balkan country for weeks, with some 15 people killed in flood-related incidents.
