    10 Downing Street Transforms Into a Temporary Art Gallery in the West Village

    Art will occupy 10 Downing Street in December as Stonehenge Partners teams up with No Longer Empty to present XYZ: NYC 10 Downing in the West Village. The temporary art exhibition will run December 7th through 22nd in empty retail space at 10 Downing Street. Stonehenge Partners allowed No Longer Empty to use a vacant 1,300 square foot retail space at the building for a temporary art exhibition.

    The show will feature the work of Australian artists Leslie Eastman and Natasha Johns-Messenger, a collaborative team whose work sometimes blur the boundaries between “real” and “perceived space.”

    More than 100 people are expected to visit the exhibit each day of the show's run, in addition to several planned VIP events.

    The mission of No Longer Empty is to redefine public art through temporary, site-specific exhibitions that draw together the vitality of the contemporary art world and the values of building community. The organization looks for engaging public spaces that are easily accessible to the community.

    Stonehenge creative director Michael Stern said that those goals mesh perfectly with what the company is trying to do.

    “We want to celebrate the uniqueness and lifestyle of each neighborhood and the art that suits it,” said Stern. “An installation like this makes sense in the West Village, where space is used outside of the grid that makes up the rest of the city.”

    The temporary art exhibit is just the latest of Stonehenge’s forays into the vibrant NYC art scene, and it helps further the company’s stated mission to celebrate the culture of the city and connect residents to happenings throughout the area. Stonehenge hopes to continue to bring artists into its spaces for demonstrations, exhibits, classes and installations in the future.

    “Stonehenge is a part of New York City. To embrace the city is to embrace what makes it unique – we want to share that understanding with our residents and the community,” said Stern.

    Stonehenge Partners have hosted a plethora of art events at their properties, including ‘Sketch in the Park’ with the Art Students League and Lee’s Art Shop at the Ritz Plaza Park. Additionally, Artist David Jon Kassan recently performed a live iPad art demo for the community at The Olivia in October. Stonehenge has continued its commitment to art by partnering with Chashama to provide window installations throughout the city in an effort to beautify public spaces in the community.
