1,400 selfies capture the amazing transformation of this transgender man
Jamie Raines describes himself as “a 21-year-old trans guy just making videos about my transition” on the about page of his YouTube channel. With 11,335 subscribers and more than 800,000 views, his videos are dedicated to answering the common questions people have about gender transition – like how he picked his name, hair loss, hair gain and how his hormones have changed things like his voice. His latest video chronicles each day of his three-year transition with a series in 1,400 selfies.
“I didn’t like looking in the mirror before I started on testosterone. Now I’m happy with what I see,” Raines told Buzzfeed.

Originally, he had planned to chronicle just the first year of his change but when he didn’t produce any facial hair that first year, he decided to continue a little longer so the change was more dramatic.
“My face started to get longer and I lost the chubby cheeks,” he tells Buzzfeed. “Once I first started getting a couple of chin hairs, it was really exciting.”

Raines hopes his videos will help other going through transition. After being surprised at how long it took for him to see results he hopes his videos will show others that some things are worth the wait.
