Americans were expected to spend more than $2 billion on flowers for Valentine’s Day, according to the National Retail Federation, with a whopping 37.8 percent of the population (roughly 120 million people) purchasing flowers for their loved ones.
But judging from posts on Facebook and Twitter, many of those who bought bouquets through popular delivery services like 1-800-Flowers did not get quite what they thought they had ordered.
The company’s Facebook page and Twitter feed were flooded with complaints from angry customers over the weekend.

It wasn’t just the flowers that customers were complaining about.
Dear @1800flowers this is not how someone should receive chocolates for Valentines Day. #disappointed pic.twitter.com/cVTRFBMaXL

It’s not clear whether all of the posts were authentic complaints.

And to the company’s credit, it tried to respond to many of the missives individually, as it did last year.
@theRealjwjones I am sorry to this. Pls follow and DM me . I will be happy to assist you. Thanks! Erika
