1st convictions from Fast and Furious gun probe

PHOENIX (AP) — Two men have pleaded guilty to buying guns that were destined to be smuggled into Mexico, the first convictions in the federal government's botched Operation Fast and Furious.

The men were so-called "straw buyers" who acknowledged purchasing guns that they knew were headed to Mexico.

The goal of the federal government's investigation was to catch weapons-trafficking kingpins, but firearms agents lost track of many weapons they were trying to trace to smuggling ringleaders, and some guns ended up at crime scenes in Mexico and the U.S.

Jacob Wayne Chambers and Jacob Anthony Montelongo each pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to a conspiracy charge.

The pair admitted to being part of a 20-person smuggling ring that's accused of running guns into Mexico for use by the Sinaloa drug cartel.

As soon as they realized they couldn't properly track the weapons, the operation should have been shut down. Common sense
      • Wiz 3 mths ago
The idea never was to "track" the weapons, the idea was to get more American made weapons in the hands of drug cartels so Holder could call for more money and Obama could press for the need for more gun control laws. Since the could not get new laws passed, they made up "rules" about creating a registration system for anyone who bought 2 guns on the same day.
      • Gunbunnie 3 mths ago
Law enforcement should never be allowed to break laws or allow people to break laws in the first place.

Are you a FOXGOP B/S watcher, that looks like it came straight from their playbook.Pure B/S. If that were the case do you not think that the NRA would be all over it especially in Texas.

When is Holder going to be held responsible for this crime? He can't even apologize to the victim's family. These two schmucks were just the scapegoats. Holder is the real crook here.

AND his boss. And Janet Napolitano

The Justice Department sent nearly 500 pages of documents to Republican lawmakers that suggest the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives may have used questionable tactics and lost track of American-made weapons in a gun trafficking investigation on the Mexican border as early as 2006.

In the Marine Corps I learned that you can delegate authority, but never responsibility. Come on Mr. Holder step up and admit your responsibility.

We stop guns from going in, but can't stop drugs and illegals from coming out of Mexico
      • Conservative 3 mths ago
BHO doesn't want to stop the illegals from coming in. They are his future voters!
      • Ryan 3 mths ago
        Conservative = racist
      • larry 3 mths ago
They do a good job of keeping the illegals here. Even the ones that want to go back.

This is a joke right? From the top of the DOJ on down there have been laws broken or ignored. The attorney general has lied beforew a congressional committee and the the best the DOJ can do is convict two street thugs that they used to run guns. As an American citizen I am both embarrased and upset with the leadership involved in this cover up.
      • Outlawcajun 3 mths ago
Exactly. If this had been pulled by two or more citizens, it would be called a conspiracy. Since it was politicians, it's a ' botched operation'.

This is what happens when Barney Fife is in charge of the Justice Department.
      • Djadu 3 mths ago
alas, poor Barney has already been drawn & quartered. Holder, the head of this fiasco, has declared it a sucess and gone home to dinner after cashing his pay raise.

I love how the media keeps referring to it as a "botched" operation. For it to have been botched there would actually have to have been an attempt to gather evidence. There was none. This stinks all the way to Holders door.

OK... OK... what about Eric Holder... when is he going to be held accountable for his lack of insight in doing his job... as the highest Cop in the land? Oh wait... Obama is behind him... LOL... as if that's not the Pot Calling the Kettle Black!
