2 dead in magnitude-8.2 quake in northern Chile

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) — Chilean officials say two people died when the powerful magnitude-8.2 earthquake struck off northern Chile, setting off a small tsunami that forced evacuations along the country's entire Pacific coast.

The governor of Chile's northern Iquique area, Gonzalo Prieto, tells Radio Cooperativa that two people are confirmed dead and several others are seriously injured.

The mayor of Tarapaca attributes the deaths to heart attacks.
