2 dead in York County after car crash, vehicle fire

YORK — Virginia State Police said two people died in a car crash on New Year’s Day on Interstate 64 in York County.

According to police, a driver and passenger were traveling in a 2016 Ford Econoline just after 6 p.m. About 6:15 p.m., the driver crossed from the far left lane to the far right and ran off the road. After hitting a tree, the vehicle caught fire, which killed the driver and the passenger.

Investigators have not yet identified the victims because of the damage caused by the fire. Police are still investigating what may have led to the crash.
