2 killed in train collision in India
LUCKNOW, India (AP) — Police say at least two people were killed and another six injured when a passenger train collided with a second train waiting at a railroad station in northern India.
Police officer Sushil Kumar says the collision occurred early Thursday at Obram Dam railroad station in Sonbhadra district, nearly 300 kilometers (185 miles) southeast of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh state.
Kumar says all the casualties were in the last coach of the stationary train, which was hit by the other passenger train which was on the same track.
Accidents are common on India's railroad network — one of the world's largest, with 14 million passengers daily. Most collisions are blamed on poor maintenance and human error.
