2 workers hurt in natural gas explosion near Price
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An explosion Tuesday at a natural gas facility in Utah injured two workers and set off a fire that damaged several buildings.
The blast occurred when a gas line ruptured just before 9 a.m. at the Dry Canyon natural gas operations center near Price, the Carbon County Sheriff's Office said.
Emergency crews were called and the fire was contained by 1 p.m., said Jim Felton, spokesman for the Bill Barrett Corp., which operates the station.
The two injured men, both Bill Barrett Corp. employees, suffered burn injuries, the sheriff's office said.
One of the men, in his early 60s, was airlifted to the University of Utah Burn Center in Salt Lake City. The other, in his late 20s, also was being treated at the university hospital.
Hospital spokeswoman Kathy Wilets said one of the men, Doug Jenkins, was listed in fair condition Tuesday night. She wasn't authorized to release Jenkins' age or provide any details about the second man.
All gas wells going to the station have been shut down, but the cause of the incident is not yet clear, Felton said. No environmental spills have been reported, he said.
The natural gas operations center is about 20 miles east of Price. Bill Barrett Corp. is an oil and natural gas exploration and development company with headquarters in Denver.
