2011-2012 Toyota Avalon Recalled For Fire Risk Linked To Audio System

Toyota is recalling approximately 52,000 Avalon sedans from the 2011 and 2012 model years. According to Detroit News, an electrical problem could cause the vehicles to catch fire.

The problem with the Avalon stems from its audio system -- specifically, the subwoofer wires located in the trunk of the car. If cargo in the trunk moves those wires out of place, they can come in contact with the subwoofer's metal frame. That, in turn, can create a short circuit and cause the subwoofer to overheat, resulting in a fire hazard.

Toyota hasn't yet said when it will mail out recall notices, but when it does, owners will be able to take their Avalons to a Toyota dealer, who will repair the audio system. In the meantime, Toyota says that dealers will be happy to disconnect the rear subwoofer, free of charge.
