    2011 Charlotte Pumpkin Patches

    Fall has officially arrived and the time has come for pumpkins. Whether you enjoy carving them or eating them, there are plenty of places to pick them in the Charlotte area. Most farms offer hayrides, mazes, and other autumn fare in addition to their pumpkin patches.

    Hodges Farm

    3900 Rocky River Road, Charlotte, 28215

    Near Reedy Creek Park, Hodges Farm is open every day in October from 9 a.m. until dark. In addition to a pick-your-own pumpkin patch, the farm offers hayrides, farm animals, and a corn maze. On Saturdays and Sundays, pony rides are also available for the kids.

    Country Days Corn Maze

    416 Joe Lee Helms Rd, Indian Trail, 28079

    East of Mint Hill, the Country Days Corn Maze offers two great mazes starting at $7 for admission. The site also houses a general store and offers concessions for the hungry visitor. Hours for public access throughout October are:

    Fridays: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

    Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

    Sundays: 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

    Carrigan Farms

    1261 Oak Ridge Farm Hwy, Mooresville, 28115

    In the Lake Norman area, Carrigan Farms offers tractor-drawn hayrides every Saturday and Sunday in October. The cost per rider (over the age of two) is $9 and includes a trip to the pumpkin patch. The hours each weekend day are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    The Hunter Farm

    For folks in South Charlotte, the Hunter Farm (Catawba Land Conservancy) is the place to go for hayrides, pumpkins, and a farming education. They are open to the public from Oct. 1 through Nov. 18, Monday through Friday. Hours are 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the last hayride of the night leaving at 6:30 p.m. Children get in for $7 and adults will pay $8.50.

    Riverbend Farm

    12150 McManus Road, Midland, 28107

    East of Charlotte, near Locust, lies Riverbend Farm with its large animal sculptures and farm-themed playground. Reaching the pumpkin patch involves a covered wagon ride and will cost an admission of $5. Open seven days a week in October, the farm includes an air cannon and a pumpkin sling shot. Ice cream and baked goods are also available.

    Hours:

    Monday through Friday: 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

    Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    Sunday: 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
