The 84th Academy Awards are in the books. As always the ceremony had its share of exciting and memorable moments. The return of Billy Crystal to the big stage definitely added some interest to a show that lacked a lot of drama in the major categories. He brought back some great antics from shows past and it really added to the entertainment value. Of course, there were plenty of surprises to along with that. Here is a look at the most stunning moments at the Oscars.
Meryl Streep's big win
On a night when "The Artist" swept most major awards as expected, the Best Actress category offered the dramatic moment of the night. Streep pulled the upset by beating out favorite Viola Davis to earn the coveted prize. You would think that a woman with two prior Oscars and 17 nominations wouldn't be a surprise to win again. However, all of the hype pointed at Davis taking home the award. It was refreshing to see Streep on the big stage as a winner for the first time in nearly 30 years. She gave a touching acceptance speech that was one of the best in years.
Jennifer Lopez's dress
There was no wardrobe malfunction but J. Lo certainly pushed the envelope. While presenting a pair of Oscars with Cameron Diaz, the talented entertainer's sheer dress seemed to leave part of her left nipple exposed. Her designer quickly responded by saying the dress was a perfect fit and any illusion of a nipple sighting was just that. Nevertheless, the Lopez dress was easily the most talked about at the Oscars.
Sacha Baron Cohen's red carpet incident
We probably shouldn't be shocked about the star of "The Dictator" making headlines at the Oscars. We knew he was planning something and we know he is capable of some extreme pranks. Still, it was a little jarring to see the comedian walk the red carpet as the character from his latest movie. The highlight came when he poured ashes out of a jar near Ryan Seacrest. There was some reaction from those around him but the versatile "American Idol" host took everything in stride.
Billy Crystal's Chapter 11 joke
Hollywood rarely likes to poke fun at itself or at its grand ceremony. However, the host had a great little jab at the longtime home of the Oscars. The Kodak Theatre was recently renamed due to the title company's bankruptcy filing. Crystal decided to poke fun by welcoming everyone to the "Chapter 11 Theatre." It was the best gag of the night and a great way to get things started on a strong note.e pNote: This was written by a Yahoo! contributor. Join the Yahoo!
