Sticker shock: 2016 Chevrolet Volt priced less than outgoing model

Pricing for the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Volt will start at $33,995. After deducting federal tax credits that Volt buyers automatically get, you’ll be able to drive off the lot for $26,495, or $1,175 less than the 2015 Volt.

With the promised improvements, the second-generation Volt looks to offer more for the money than the original car.

For instance, GM claims the new Volt will go 50 miles on electricity only, or about 20 percent farther than the old model, giving it a total projected range of 400 miles. The 2016 Volt also has five seats, rather than just four, even if the compromised center rear is usable only in a pinch or by kids in child seats. Plus, the new Volt also has much more user-friendly knob and button controls, whereas the older one had hard-to-use capacitive switches for radio, navigation, heater, and more.

All that could make the 2016 Volt a much more successful package than the original Volt was. And the lower sticker price might certainly lure consumers interested in an alternative-fuel vehicle.
