    All across America, people took to the streets to celebrate gay pride -- and they snapped a multitude of colorful Instagram photos along the way.

    These photos were taken in different locations, but they are all united by a common Instagram hashtag "#pride" and the common purpose of furthering LGBT rights in America.

    Gay pride is recognized from June 22-24 in cities across America including New York City, San Francisco, Chicago and many more. The purpose of pride is to take a stand against the discrimination of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people. In many cities it is recognized with a parade and other colorful festivities.

    In New York City, notable figures such as Mayor Bloomberg, Pride Grand Marshall Cyndi Lauper and openly-gay social media phenomenon George Takei took part in the celebration. (All pictured in the gallery above)

    In reconition of pride, "#pride" and "Happy Pride" and "#sfpride" were all trending on Twitter on Sunday.
