2nd daughter of Los Angeles woman off life support

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 5-year-old girl whose mother is charged with her attempted drowning and the drowning of her 1-year-old sister has been taken off life support at a Los Angeles hospital, authorities said.

The girls' father, Jose Humberto Lopez, told KABC-TV that he hoped some good would come from the situation by the fact that he had decided to donate the 5-year-old's organs for transplant.

The girls' mother, Lorna Valle, 32, was charged with murder and attempted murder Friday and is being held on $1.5 million bail. She will face a second count of murder when the 5-year-old's death is confirmed, said officer Karen Rayner, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The girl was removed from life support Monday at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Rayner said.

Lopez told police he found his wife trying to drown the girls in a tub when he returned home from a store Wednesday morning.

Firefighters answering a 911 call found the girls unconscious and not breathing in a converted garage behind a main house. They were in a bathtub and had no pulses, fire department spokesman Erik Scott said.

They were given cardiopulmonary resuscitation and taken to a hospital, he said.

Doctors worked on both girls for two hours, but the 1-year-old died and the 5-year-old was transferred to Children's Hospital in critical but stable condition, said Katreena Salgado, spokeswoman for California Hospital Medical Center.

If convicted, Valle faces 50 years to life in prison.

We've got to make harsher punishments for these people and pray that deters some of the other nut cases out there. Make the punishment fit the crime. Drown her. Why should we pa for her food, clothing, housing, medical and COLLEGE education for the next 50 years!

Seems there is a news story on a daily basis that causes me to ask that same question you posted: "What the HELL is wrong with people?" Just don't think there is an answer for us.

Brain processes... something is wrong with these peoples' brains. Is it genetic, is it cultural, is it political? Probably "yes" to all of the above as history has already shown us.

Too many people crammed into too little space with dwindling resources, often in circumstances of overwhelming poverty and hopelessness. Add mental illness and an overburdened mental health system in which far too many people fall through the cracks and you have a recipe for tragedy.

So why do we, the taxpayers, have to PAY for her to get a comfy cot and 3 meals a day for the next 50 years? Ever heard of that saying; Do unto others as others have done to you?

Lets not waste the taxpayers money with a trial, and then 50 years in prison, which should be 100 years, so this way she doesnt get out at 80 years old and become a Murdering Granny....just give her a public hanging....she doesnt deserve to live, and lets not use the excuse she is a Nut.....or Mentally Challenged, I hope they take her out in Prison.....i have no Use for anyone that kills Children or Animals.

My mother was murdered in april of last year and I wish the man who took her the rest of his years in prison. I want him to think about what he did every single day and I hope it eats at him every day. 50 years is not enough for those 2 precious girls, rest in peace sweeties!

If someone is suffering from post partum depression, why don't they just kill themselves, why do they feel the need to murder innocent little children? I'm sorry, but I have no sympathy for people like this, and I resent having to support her. If she was a human being and all of a sudden got clarity and realized what she did, she'd kill herself. Unfortunately, child murderers don't seem to do that, they appeal & appeal, their freedom is more important to them than their childrens lives.

Just drown her once she's found guilty. It's called an eye for an eye. I have no sympathy for this terrible excuse for a mother.

I really hope that California has enough sense to give this lady the death penalty.....sadly even being sentenced to death is not brutal enough of a punishment. I hope she forever burns in hell

This just shows that even if abortion were outlawed look at a bigger increase in seeing cases like this. What is right for someone may not be right for another individual. Be careful what you ask for.

I think hanging should be brough back, and maybe these idoits will think twice before doing these things. 50 years for killing two children is not enough, and why should the tax payers cloth and feed her for 50 years... I say hang her!!!
