3 people killed on Highway 1 in head-on crash with pickup truck

Three people were killed early Tuesday in a head-on crash in the Lompoc Valley, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Just before 6 a.m., county firefighters, California Highway Patrol officers and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the collision on northbound Highway 1, south of Constellation Road, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.

A sedan and a pickup collided, killing three people in the car, Safechuck said.

Their names were not available pending notification of relatives.

Two people in the truck received minor injuries and were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center by ground ambulance, he added.

Their names and details on their conditions were not available.

Northbound Highway 1 in the area was closed for more than two hours due to the crash and investigation, according to emergency dispatch reports.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol’s Buellton area were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
