3 pit bulls kill toddler in Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — Authorities in the Dominican Republic say a 3-year-old boy has been killed by three pit bulls.

Police said Wednesday that the attack occurred at a vacation home in the country's northeastern region where the boy's mother works as a maid. Officials say the 24-year-old mother was seriously injured when she tried to rescue her son from the dogs.

It is unclear who owns the pit bulls. Police say the owner of the house is a French citizen who is currently not in the Dominican Republic.

Police say one of the dogs was euthanized after the attack.
