3M Food Safety's Molecular Detection Assay Wins Approval
3M Food Safety, a part of 3M Company MMM, revealed that its 3M Molecular Detection Assay 2 – Listeria monocytogenes had been granted approval by the AOAC Performance Tested MethodsSM program (Certification 081501).
Based in Gaithersburg, MD, AOAC RI is a part of globally recognized, independent, not-for-profit association AOAC International. AOAC’s Official Methods of AnalysisSM lend defensibility, integrity and confidence in decision making. The approval endorses the next-generation test kit as equivalent to or better than standard reference methods.
Gaining the approval necessitates an independent and meticulous laboratory examination of the ability of 3M’s distinctive molecular test method to accurately identify Listeria monocytogenes in a range of foods. The validation study analyzed a variety of food samples, including queso fresco cheese, 4 percent milk fat cottage cheese, vanilla ice cream, 3 percent chocolate whole milk and bagged raw spinach among others, along with various environmental surfaces like plastic, stainless steel and concrete.
The most recent Listeria monocytogenes assay is one of two test kits that were built upon the pioneering 3M Molecular Detection System platform, and were developed in answer to increased customer engagement and the company’s commitment to work with food processors to protect the world’s food supply.
The new detection system is built upon distinctive isothermal DNA amplification and bioluminescence detection technologies. It has been specifically designed to cater to food processors’ needs for a faster, simpler and more accurate real-time pathogen detection approach. The upgraded testing procedure offers much faster time-to-result – as little as 24 hours of enrichment – and boasts a streamlined workflow that is 30% faster than first generation assay.
