4 summer road construction projects to steer clear of in the Heart of the Valley

LITTLE CHUTE — Wisconsin summers mean the return of the orange cones and road detours.

The Heart of the Valley is well into its road construction season with repaving and utility improvements underway, but luckily local travelers won't see too many construction cones on city and village roads.

As the Interstate 41 expansion project is underway, drivers will have to utilize local roads to get around the occasional lane and ramp closures along the highway.

To help avoid roadblocks, here's a look at where roads and bridges are under construction this summer in the Heart of the Valley.

Utility and pavement work along Evergreen Drive in Little Chute

Utility and pavement construction will be done on Evergreen Drive between Holland Road and Vandenbroek Road.

Rehabilitation of the sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water mains began last month. Pavement installation is expected to start in July and the full project will wrap up by October.

Crews will also install a shared-use trail along the north side of the road that will connect to the existing trail east of Vandenbroek Road and a future connection to Appleton’s Apple Creek Trail.

The road will be closed to thru traffic for the duration of the project but will remain open to local traffic.

Upgrades coming to Welhouse Drive and Curtin Avenue in Kimberly

Water, storm sewer and sanitary sewer mains as well as full road replacement is underway on Welhouse Drive and Curtin Avenue in Kimberly.

Utility work began in April and will wrap up in July. Street and sidewalk reconstruction will then start up and last until the beginning of September.

Kankapot Creek bridge in Buchanan is getting replaced

The bridge over Kankapot Creek on Outagamie County KK in Buchanan is scheduled for a replacement this summer.

A construction start date hasn't been determined but the project is expected to take three to four months to complete. The road will be closed to traffic for the duration of the bridge's replacement.

Rose Hill Road overpass closed for the summer

The Rose Hill Road Interstate 41 overpass in Little Chute will be closed until mid-September as construction crews plan to tear down and replace it.

Construction crews are removing and replacing the overpass as part of the I-41 expansion project.

Rose Hill Road will be closed between Fairlane Drive and Evergreen Drive for the duration of the project.
