400 arrested after protest on NY's Brooklyn Bridge

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police say about 400 protesters were arrested after they swarmed the Brooklyn Bridge and shut down a lane of traffic for several hours.

Police say some demonstrators spilled onto the roadway Saturday night after being told to stay on the pedestrian pathway. They face disorderly conduct and other charges. The lane has since reopened.

Occupy Wall Street demonstrators are railing against corporate greed, global warming and social inequality, among other grievances.

The group has been camped near the Financial District for two weeks and clashed with police on earlier occasions.

Earlier Saturday, two other marches went over the bridge without problems. One was from Brooklyn to Manhattan by a group opposed to genetically modified food. Another in the opposite direction marched against poverty.

I think the new aristocracy woke up the American youth. When the see their future being stolen they should demonstrate their frustration. It's the American Way! Ask the founders of this great nation. Support the right, maybe the duty, to protest.

They should be marching on the whitehouse then...

This is only the tip of the iceberg. The separation of class will only lead to more of the same. Greed is the cause. The right to assemble was built into the Constitution specifically to support public protests. Remember our national history. Protesting is a tradition demonstrated by the founders of this great nation. Americans will not accept a new aristocracy of greed ruling this nation.

When they march in Egypt,we say yea, good job. When they march here, their thugs. Why is that. All their saying is,stop Wall Street from ruining the Nation. The funny thing is,our congress will be just like Egypt. They'll ride the fence until the results are in,and then land on that side with lots of VERBAL support.

In Libya or Afghanistan they would also be machine gunning the demonstrators down. I'm not particularly against the cause, just their methods

Reminds me of The Wizard of Id cartoon. Rodney and the King are standing at the parapet on the top of the castle. Rodney looks downward and says to the King, "Sire, Sire, the peasants are revolting." Then the King looks over the edge, and says, "You're right, they sure are."

Tonight I was sitting in Don Pablo’s have a drink and eating dinner watching the last showing of Andy Rooney after football. I was first asked to change the channel to watch the Simpsons, then to watch football. On both occasions I said no which caused a great stink. We sit here and wonder why America is in the shape it is in and I realized I have to look no further than tonight at Don Pablo’s to understand why. I am glad that I am 55 so I won’t have to sit and watch the down fall of this great country. One in which the Simpsons holds more weight over peoples thoughts than the comments one of the greatest journalists of our time. When we watch the likes of Fox news for our reporting and wish to turn to the Simpsons over hearing the last statement of a great figure of American history like Andy Rooney is there really any hope for us? America, why even both to protest, the Simpsons are on.

NEVER will there be massive redistribution of income in the USA.

'social inequality' will not be solved by giving money to the impoverished - ONLY by the impoverished improving their own status via their own talents.

The Mideast revolutions of this past summer should be duly noted. Now it's time for the Americans to clean house! We have the right, the might and the American people will persevere! We have the right to keep and bear arms, too! Chicagoans should demonstrate at the Chicago Board of Trade. Every American city should feel the wrath of the people!!! Let's get it on!!!

Wall Street bankers own both houses of Congress, the Bush and Obama administrations, and the Supreme Court. They profited from blood of our sons and daughters who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, destroyed the economy, and are solely responsible for the rising National Debt. (Before you ignorant Tea Party morons blame socialism or Obama or the size of government, just ask yourself who profited most from all those billions of tax dollars that comprise the Debt.)
And yet, not a single one has been held accountable, not one. And no Democratic or Republican or Tea party administration is going to change that, because Wall Street owns our so-called Democracy.
When you can't afford to send your children to college, when you can't find a job or pay your mortgage, when a son or daughter in the military loses their life, those Wall Street Bankers with their million dollar bonuses, with their gated communities, with their Piaget watches, with their Saville Row suits, and their dinners at the White House, those are the guys to blame.

I saw a news story, that showed rich people up on a balcony drinking champagn and laughing and pointing at the protesters below, It was disgusting, on the other hand the protesters must realize that to demand equal outcomes from unequal efforts is foolish. Everybody has a chance to make it, but Education, effort, ethics, locations, timing, luck, all have a factor in your lot in life. To expect an equal outcome to everybodys life is unreasonable and impossible.

The Republican and Democratic #$%$ don't have a clue as to the damage done by Wall Street. How could they? They are each owned by them through political bribery. Please see the documentary "Inside Job." Bravo for these folks protesting.
