KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghan authorities say a roadside bomb has killed a district police chief and four other policemen in southern Afghanistan.
Gulab Khan, director of investigations for the Uruzgan provincial police, says all five were riding in one vehicle in Shorab district when it struck the bomb.
He says the police were while responding to a Taliban attack on a checkpoint around 11 p.m. Thursday when their vehicle hit the explosive.
He said two other policemen were wounded in the gunbattle with insurgents at the checkpoint.
