Ready to channel your inner Olympian? From now until March, you can skate at Millenium Park's ice rink, weather permitting. The best thing about it? It's free! If you have your own skates, just lace up and hit the ice. Even if you don't have your own skates, skate rental is only $10. Weekday hours are 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., and weekend hours are 12 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Rock Climbing
Life Time Fitness, nine Chicago-area locations
Channel your inner adventurer and head out to Life Time Fitness for some rock wall climbing. They have programs for kids as young as 5 years old, so the whole family can participate. The Morton Arboretum, Lisle, Illinois
If you love the outdoors no matter how cold it gets, head for the western suburbs to enjoy the 9-plus miles of hiking trails at the Morton Arboretum. There are paved trails as well as deep woods trails to challenge every skill level. Hours are 7 a.m. until sunset 365 days a year. Admission for adults is $12, but they have discount Wednesdays, when you can enjoy the day for $8.
Get Up and Dance
Arthur Murray Dance Centers, five Chicago-area locations
If you've ever wanted to experience what it's like to be on "Dancing With the Stars," then strap on your dancing shoes and take ballroom dancing lessons. Arthur Murray Dance Centers offer both private lessons as well as group classes and practice parties. Right now, they're offering a private lesson and consultation for $25 if you're a new student.
