Bill Gates remains the richest man in the world-and his net worth dwarfs the next wealthiest person's by more than $20 billion.

In a list released today by Wealth-X, Gates, 60, is said to be worth $87.4 billion. Amancio Ortega Gaona, the Spanish founder of Inditex-a fashion retail group that includes Zara-has $66.8 billion in the bank.

The top 50 wealthiest people in the world have a combined fortune of $1.45 trillion, which is nearly equal to the GDP of Australia. Of the group, 29 live in the United States, a higher number than any other country.

Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, 31 and with a net worth of $42.8 billion, is the youngest billionaire on the list, while 93-year-old L'Oréal heiress Liliane Bettencourt is the oldest.
