6,800 Mich. residents pick health insurance from website in 2 months; 98,000 apply
LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- About 98,000 Michigan residents applied for medical insurance under the federal health care law in two months, with nearly 7,000 choosing a plan.
The numbers released Wednesday by the Obama administration show more people enrolled in private plans on a federal website in November than October. But there's a long way to go for Michigan to see hundreds of thousands of residents enroll for 2014 as anticipated.
Dec. 23 is the deadline to sign up for coverage starting Jan. 1. Enrollment continues until the end of March.
About 75,000 Michigan residents were deemed eligible for a marketplace plan, including 29,000 of them eligible for tax credits to offset some of their premium.
Obama's top health official says evidence of technical improvements to healthcare.gov is seen in the latest enrollment figures.
