Phnom Penh, July 18 (IANS) At least 60 children have died due to dengue in Cambodia this year, out of a total of 15,597 cases reported in the first six months, according to Xinhua.

The number of cases saw a 239 percent rise from the 4,604 cases in the same period last year, the National Centre for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control said Wednesday.

The province with the highest toll was Banteay Meanchey with 14 deaths, followed by Siem Reap with seven and Kampong Thom with six.

Char Meng Chuor, director of the centre, said the last time the disease burst out in a large scale was in 2007, when 407 children were killed.
