7 smartphones with monster batteries so big, you won’t believe it

Every single high-profile study in recent years that asks consumers what they want to see improved most in future smartphones is topped by the same thing: battery life. It’s no mystery that the batteries in most modern smartphones simply can’t keep up with all of the technology companies are stuffing into these handsets. Quad- and octa-core processors, ridiculously bright 2K displays and all of the other components in newer phones are huge battery hogs, but battery technology simply can’t move quickly enough to compensate for all of these thin new high-end phones.

If you want decent battery life on a smartphone from your carrier, you only have a handful of choices including the Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus. If you want real battery performance though, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Shoppers willing to skip carrier stores and shop from importers or Amazon instead will find a handful of interesting options out there with monstrous batteries that have capacities of 4,000 mAh or even more. To put that in perspective, the Galaxy Note 4 has a 3,220 mAh battery and the iPhone 6 Plus has a 2,915 mAh battery.

Gadget blog YugaTech recently put together a list of seven smartphones with gigantic 4,000+ mAh batteries, and you’d be hard pressed to find a recent smartphone in the U.S. that will outlast any of these handsets.

Included on the list are a pair of phablets from Lenovo, the S860 and P780, as well as the Huawei Ascend Mate 2.

Of note, an older version of the Ascend Mate 2 can be purchased on Amazon for under $300 unlocked, though it only has a 3,900 mAh battery. Huawei’s newer all-aluminum Ascend Mate 7 has an even bigger 4,100 mAh battery, and it is currently available for about $518 unlocked on Amazon (it’s also one of my personal favorite phablets, and I often carry one myself).
