7 Things You Didn’t Know About Badgers

I once saw a badger trundling down the road, he was going quite fast and reminded me of a small dog. An awesome small dog.

1. Badgers can run up to 16-19 mph for short periods of time. Bless.

2. They can grow up to a metre in length. Woah!

3. Badgers belong to the Mustelidae family as do otters, weasels, ferrets, polecats, and wolverines. Yes, wolverines.

4. Some badger setts (houses) are centuries old. Just like Downtown Abbey.

5. The largest sett in Britain to be found extended over 15x35m and had 12 entrances. Probably better than Downton Abbey.

6. Badgers have poor eyesight, not ideal for a nocturnal mammal. They do, however, have excellent hearing and an acute sense of smell; perfect for seeking out delicious, juicy, slugs and snails.

7. Badgers like to keep their badger bedrooms clean. They carry old bedding outside under their chins to prevent a build up. Just take a minute to imagine how adorable that must look.
