8 confirmed dead in Quebec fire, 30 missing

L'ISLE-VERTE, Quebec (AP) — Exhausted investigators are suspending their search for victims of a massive retirement home fire in Quebec. Authorities say eight people are confirmed dead and about 30 others are missing.

Authorities said the search through the frozen-over ruins will resume Saturday morning.

Quebec Provincial Police Lt. Guy Lapointe authorities decided to let the search crew rest from the cold and difficult work for their safety. He says they are using steam to melt the ice and the work is specialized so there is a limited amount of people that they can assign to the task.

The fire erupted Thursday in the small town of L'Isle-Verte.
