The 8 Most Glorious Moments from the Scripps National Spelling Bee

On Thursday night, Nihar Saireddy Janga, 11, and Jairam Hathwae, 13, were named champions of the 89th annual Scripps National Spelling Bee, which begs the question: what are we even doing with our lives?

The event was historic for a number of reasons. Janga is the youngest champion on record, plus, there was more dabbing at this event than maybe any academically minded competition ever.

If you missed the bee (how?!?! why?!?!), here are the 8 moments you need to know about.

1. Janga dabbing.

2. Mitchell Robson, a speller from Massachusetts, dabbed to perfection, as well.

3. Basically everyone dabbed. This was, by all accounts, a dabbing bee.

Mitchell's brother is a break-out star:

4. Wait, can we just take a moment to appreciate Jangar? Who was this cool/ruthless at 11?

He also threw up an X as a victory pose, in an homage to football player Dez Bryant's signature touchdown move.

Janga even got Weezy recognition:

5. This is the first time in the history of the Scripps-Bee where a first-grader qualified for the competition. Unfortunately, six-year-old Akash Vukoti was eliminated in the preliminary rounds, getting out on the word 'bacteriolytic.' At least he can find solace in being the cutest competitor of all time.

6. The Spelling Bee's Snapchat story was pretty incredible, too.

7. Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe live-tweeted the whole thing, and that was almost as compelling as the actual competition.

8. That time the Spelling Bee schooled a Twitter troll.
