8-Year-Old’s Lemonade Stand Raises More Than $17,000 to Fight Modern Day Slavery
Vivienne Harr, an 8-year-old in Marin County, California, has put up a stand against human trafficking and slavery—literally.
After learning that 30 million people are currently trapped in modern-day slavery, Harr started a lemonade stand to raise money for Not For Sale, a nonprofit organization fighting to “re-abolish slavery.”
“I decided I would sit at my lemonade stand every day—rain or shine—until I raise $150,000,” Harr wrote on her Indiegogo campaign.

The Fairfax resident, who started her campaign on June 25, has raised more than $17,000 in direct donations to Not For Sale on Fundly. Her Indiegogo site has raised another $2,740 so far, to fund the bottling and sale of Harr’s #MAKEASTAND lemonade in retail stores. All profits from both pages will go to Not For Sale, according to the Indiegogo page.
Originally, cups of Harr’s “luscious lemonade” sold for $2, but Harr soon decided to offer the drink for free, curiously enough. She came to the realization, “It’s not for sale, because kids are not for sale. In other words: It’s free. You can give what’s in your heart.”
Harr said that since the price was indexed to the heart, the average payment for a glass of lemonade went up to $10, with some individuals donating as much as $500.
