Sept. 11 marks the 10th anniversary of the horrific terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. In light of this somber milestone, Boston, along with most of the other major cities in the country, is hosting many memorial celebrations.
* Emerson College is hosting a free screening of "New York Says Thank You" on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Paramount Center. After the film special guests, Megan Sleeper (producer and Emerson alum), Scott Rettberg (director), and Brian Fitzpatrick (New York City firefighter on scene at the World Trade Center) will be available for a question-and-answer session. * The 9/11 Berklee Memorial Concert will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Berklee Performance Center. This musical tribute marks the 10th anniversary by showcasing original songs and instrumental by Berklee students and alumni as well as performances by the a cappella group Pitch Slapped and The Slam Poetry Team. * The Witness Project: An Instillation for the 10th Anniversary of 9/11/2001 is a multimedia installation that explores and commemorates the remaining buildings at ground zero. This exhibit includes scale drawings, conceptual costumes, and sound by Robin Masi (artist) and Ken Field (composer). This event runs from Aug. 22 to Sept. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gallery 360, Northeastern University. It is open to the public and limited parking is available. For more information, click here.
* To commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9, 11 the Boston National Park Service will blanket the Bunker Hill Monument Grounds with 3,000 flags to honor the memory of those who were killed in the terrorist attacks. In somber celebration of this anniversary, Park Rangers will hold historical talks every hour on the hour on Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
