San Diego will be having opportunities for the public to remember the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks throughout the first week and a half of September.
9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will happen Saturday, Sept. 3, at the San Diego Hilton Bayfront . Teams of firefighters and civilians will climb 110 floors, the height of the World Trade Center in New York City. Proceeds from teams who climb benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and FirefighterAid. Other events throughout the day include a silent auction and a VIP beer garden. The event starts at 7 a.m.
San Diego World Trade Center
The San Diego World Trade Center hosts a free event Sept. 8 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. At the Port of San Diego Pavilion, eighty local companies will have exhibits about world trade. Speakers will discuss the theme of the event, "Peace Prosperity & Diversity Through Trade: A 9/11 Commemoration." Local dignitaries will arrive at 4 p.m. in time for a memorial service at 4:30. Live music from Jefferson Starship will run from 5:30 until 7 p.m.
Skydiving
A local skydiving group made of several former Navy SEALs will perform over San Diego Bay shortly before 7 a.m. the morning of Sept. 11, 2011. Skydiving Innovations will unfurl a huge American flag several thousand feet above the ground. The cloth Stars & Stripes weighs 70 pounds and will be visible to the thousands of people down below. San Diego's point of pride are nearby military installations and the skydive is one way to honor military families who serve in the area.
