Seattle's Firefighters' Wives is hosting a memorial for a cause. The Memorial Stair Climb begins at 9:30 a.m. with sign-in starting at 8 a.m.
Climbers are invited to walk up 55 flights or do the building twice to go up 100 flights of stairs as a fundraiser for New York Firefighter and Police Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund. The event is at 601 Union St., Two Union Square, Seattle Building. Each participant will wear a picture of one of the 343 New York City Fire Fighters or one of the 61 Police Officers who perished on Sept. 11, 2001.
Several other charity events are also part of Seattle's planned 9/11 memorial events.
* "Remembering 9/11" Ceremony, Tacoma Firefighters Memorial, 3301 Ruston Way, Tacoma. Beginning at 9:30 a.m. the Tacoma Fire Department Honor Guard invites you to join them for the 10th anniversary "Remembering 9/11" ceremony. Firefighters will be accepting donations on behalf of the Pierce County Emergency Food Network at this event. Please bring non-perishable food items to drop off in support of this important community service.
* Mozart's Requiem, Holy Rosary Church, 4139 42nd Ave SW, Seattle, 3 p.m. Cantare Vocal Ensemble joins with Sammamish Symphony Orchestra and members of Sacred Music Chorale, Northwest Chamber Chorus, Seattle Peace Chorus, and others at Holy Rosary Church in West Seattle to honor the 3,000 victims, survivors and countless heroes of 9/11. Funds collected during the memorial and a portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to the Twin Towers Orphan Fund.
* Moments of Silence, Celebration Park, 1095 S. 324th Street, Federal Way. Begins at 5:30 a.m.
Join Mayor Skip Priest and other Federal Way officials in remembrance of lives lost on 9/11. Moments of silence for the following:
5:46 a.m. - American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into WTC North Tower
6:03 a.m. - United Airlines flight 175 crashed into WTC South Tower
6:37 a.m. - American Airlines Flight 77 flew into the Pentagon
6:59 a.m. - Tower 2 (South Tower) Collapsed
7:03 a.m. - United Airlines Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, PA
7:28 a.m. - Tower 1 (North Tower) collapsed
* Remembering 9/11, Log House Museum, 3003 61st Avenue SW, Seattle. Beginning at noon, the museum will host a memorial exhibit and a candlelight vigil is scheduled to follow at 7 p.m.
