9/11 Anniversary Events in Tampa/St. Pete

Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, marks the 10-year anniversary of the attacks on 9/11. The Tampa Bay area is observing the date with events throughout the area, in a multitude of venues. Commemorate the day with one of these local remembrances.

    * Summon the Heroes: A 9/11 Remembrance, Saturday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 11 at 2:30 p.m. at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota. This musical tribute will feature orchestral music, children's singing groups, and a video presentation with narration. Proceeds will benefit local and national charities. Ticket costs are $10, $20 and $35. Call (941) 953-3368 for more information.

    * Tampa will hold the "9/11 Ceremony of Remembrance" on Friday, Sept. 9, at 12:05 p.m., which will include the presentation of a wreath, to be placed upon a beam salvaged from the wreckage of the World Trade Centers. A flyover by the U.S. Air Force is planned, and an honor guard will be placed around the beam. The event is free.

    * 9/11 Tenth Anniversary Memorial Ceremony, Sunday, Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10209 in Spring Hill. The memorial includes steel from the World Trade Center, soil from the Shanksville, PA crash site, and inscribed bricks that record the names of the victims of 9/11. The memorial will also include a tribute to those killed during the 2000 attack on the USS Cole. The event is free; chairs will not be provided. Call (352) 796-0398.

    * Tampa Firefighters Museum 9/11 Memorial. Tampa Fire Station 1, one of the city's most historic buildings, will be rededicated at this event, particularly poignant as this coincides with the Centennial anniversary of the firehouse. Seating begins at 9:30. Special VIP seating is available by request for those directly affected by the events on 9/11. The Tampa Firefighters Museum is located at 720 Zack Street, between Jefferson and Pierce.

    * Oldsmar 9/11 Remembrance Service on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. Each year, the Oldsmar Fire Rescue hosts a remembrance ceremony at the site of a permanent on-site 9/11 memorial. A barbecue luncheon provided by the Fresh Start Church group will take place immediately after the ceremony, which observes the loss of the 343 firefighters killed during the attacks on 9/11.

    * Ray's Salute 9/11 Observance on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m., at Tropicana Field. Before the Tampa Rays vs. Boston Red Sox game, a giant American flag and a steel beam from the World Trade Center will be displayed. The first 30,000 fans will receive mini-flags and the first 10,000 kids will receive free firefighter helmets. Ticket prices range from $19-$300, depending on seating.

what a trajedy that people feel the need to make a plan to attack a nation in such a way as to fly plans into buildings with the intent to cause HARM. JESUS , GOD in the flesh says in the BIBLE, love one another. how does this attack reveal LOVE? how sad, it seems to reveal anger, hate.why would anyone follow a belief system that emminates HATE, ANGER, TERROR, the DEVIL is described in the BIBLE, as walking about seeking who he can devoir, kill, destroy. dear, dear, dear terrorist. please look at what JESUS, GOD in the flesh says in the BIBLE. LOVE ONE ANOTHER. the devil comes to kill and destroy. WHO are you following? mayor bloomberg, why no prayer at ground 0 ceremony? no CHRISTIAN pastor at national catheral ceremony? GOD did not caue 9/11. who kills and destroys? my prayers have been and continue to be with firemen, police their families. ALL first responders. and their families. LETS TURN BACK TO GOD, JESUS CHRIST in the flesh. GOD HAVE MERCY ON OUR COUNTRY! dear GOD help us. nancy,

When I was a young man I traveled to NYC to purchase some electronic equipment. A few years later I went back for some other equipment and the stores where not there because they were building the towers where the stores used to be. As a young married man I entered the towers and tried to go to the top but they wouldn't let me without paying and I did not have the money at the time. I saw the towers come down right here in my family room and since the towers came down there has been a void and hurt that will never go away but I am so happy and amazed at the workers, the progress and thought behind the rebuilding of the area as seen on TV, "America Rising." I pray for America!

II saw the attack on the 1st tower on TV here in Clearwater, Fl. I was devistated as I used to live on 14th St in the Ciry and flew for for American Airlines then (in the 60's). Every person in America was affected, especially New Yorkers. It has brought our country closer together which is good and I hope it continues

I, sadly, cannot make it, it is a six hour drive, back and fourth(would be 12 hour drive). But I am so sorry everyone who has not made it, and they will not be forgotten. ♥
