AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A 911 recording indicates people at an Ohio hospital initially thought a gunshot sound in a patient's room came from an oxygen tank.
Police allege a man walked into an Akron hospital's intensive care unit and shot his wife in the head in what may be a mercy killing. She later died.
A woman who called to report the gunshot said she and others went into the room thinking the sound came from an oxygen tank. She says the man, dressed in black, was sitting and appeared to be handling a gun. She said she then hid in another room.
John Wise of Massillon is charged and is being held on bond of $1 million. His arraignment is Wednesday.
