The airlines don’t usually catch a break with passengers. But a mother’s Facebook note, praising one airline for how the staff treated her autistic son, has gone viral.

Shelley Baudoux was trying to fly out of Melbourne, Australia with her 10-year-old son, Corey, and her nine-year-old daughter. But Corey was so frightened that he wouldn’t get on the plane, causing the family to miss the Jetstar Airways flight to Launceston, Tasmania, where they were going to visit the children’s grandfather. Jetstar is an Australian low-cost airline.

“The staff went above and beyond to try and help get him on the plane,” wrote Baudoux in her Facebook thank-you note to Jetstar, which has been shared over 1,600 times and garnered over over 29,000 likes.

"Two dark haired hostesses were very helpful trying to help me and a ground control man named Glen even came and spoke to my son and offered to let him wear his jacket to try and coax him onto the plane,” Baudoux wrote in her note on Facebook.

The airline offered to put the family on another flight. They made their way as far as the cabin door, but again, Corey, was terrified. That’s when the airline crew became so thoughtful that it will bring tears to your eyes.

The pilot came out to talk to Corey and offered let let him sit in the cockpit once the flight arrived in Launceston. After Corey continued to resist, a flight attendant — who had stayed with the family through the entire experience — bought a lemonade for Corey and offered to accompany Badoux’s daughter to Tasmania.

“She offered to take my daughter to Tasmania herself, but that wasn’t an option,” wrote Baudoux. “She came and took our boarding passes and assured us we would get a full refund.“

Baudoux said she was “totally blown away with their understanding, help, and encouragement.”
