AAA: Price of gas in DC metro area falls a penny from compared to a week ago

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Motorists in the Washington metro area are paying a penny less at the pump when compared to a week ago.

AAA Mid-Atlantic said Sunday in a weekly report that the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the D.C. metro area was $3.55. That's compared to $3.56 a week ago.

Motorists in the region are paying more than a year ago, however. At this time last year drivers were paying $3.50 per gallon.

The price of gas in the region is eight cents less than the national average. AAA says it expects lower prices as June continues.

The price of gas in the District of Columbia itself was $3.75 this week.
