ABC Orders The Muppets Comedy, Oil Boom, '80s L.A. Crime, FBI Dramas, and More

If you like days when networks pick up new shows, then today was your favorite day ever. Networks got a headstart on the Upfronts by ordering several new shows, and ABC just made the biggest order of them all! The Alphabet added three new comedies and six new dramas to its 2015-2016 season, including a reboot of The Muppets and another Shonda Rhimes drama. Stay busy, girl!

Let's start with the comedies before things get too serious.

The Muppets follows the personal lives of Jim Henson's lovable puppets in and out of the show that made them famous in a documentary-style presentation. We'll be witness to their love lives, professional aspirations, and everything in between. It's billed as a more adult take on The Muppets, but also kid friendly. Ummm, okay!

Dr. Ken stars Community's Ken Jeong as a brilliant doctor with terrible bedside manner. But that's not all! He's also a husband and father of two, and he has a propensity for driving those around him crazy. Suzy Nakamura, Tisha-Campbell Martin, Dave Foley, and Albert Tsai also star.

In The Real O'Neals, members of a seemingly perfect Catholic family have their dirty secrets aired out, but instead of causing chaos, it lets them all stop pretending and start being real. Martha Plimpton, Jay R. Ferguson, Noah Galvin, Mathew Shively, and Bebe Wood star.

On to the dramas!

Of Kings and Prophets (pictured, top of the page) is an "epic Biblical saga of faith, ambition, and betrayal" (aren't they all?) centered on a king, a prophet, and a young shepherd. Ray Winstone, Haaz Sleiman, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Oliver Rix, and Simone Kissel star.

Quantico sounds pretty crazy and fun actually. A bunch of new FBI recruits lives' are followed as they train in Virginia, and flashbacks fill in their backstory. But here's the twist! A flashforward reveals that one of these newbies is actually a sleeper terrorist that will be responsible for one of the most devastating attacks on America. Zoinks! Priyanka Chopra, Dougray Scott, Jake McLaughlin, Aunjanue Ellis, and Yasmine Al Massri star. I'll be watching this one... until it gets absolutely ridiculous in a bad way.

A to-be titled drama (formerly known as Boom) from Josh Pate and Rodes Fishburne brings Don Johnson back to TV. This adventure follows a what-if scenario involving a new oil boom in North Dakota and the ensuing rush to get a piece of the pie in a modern-day gold rush. Except replace gold with oil, obviously. Chace Crawford, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Delroy Lindo, Amber Valetta, and Scott Michael Foster star.

Shonda Rhimes' latest is dubbed The Catch, and it's like Scandal... but with fraud! Mirelle Enos (The Killing) is a fraud investigator, but get this! She's about to be a victim of fraud herself, courtesy of her fiancé. Dump him, girl. Alimi Ballard, Damon Dayoub, Jay Hayden, Jacky Ido, Bethany Joy Lenz star. Hannibal's Jennifer Schuur created the series. =

The Family is a thriller about a politician's son who returns after being presumed dead. But is he really who he says he is? I wouldn't trust him, but then again, I wouldn't trust the politician, either! Joan Allen, Allison Pill, Margot Bingham, and Zach Gilford (QB1!!!) star.

Did you want a Los Angeles-based crime anthology that spans several decades on your TVs next year? Well you get American Crime Story on FX! And you also get ABC's new series Wicked City, which will spend its first season in 1982 SoCal investigating a murder case and surrounded by rock n' roll, cocaine, and regrettable hair. Adam Rothenberg, Ed Westwick, Taissa Farmiga, Gabriel Luna, and Karolina Wydra star.

ABC will announce its fall schedule on Tuesday, May 12. ABC also announced several series renewals today, including Agent Carter and Galavant.

That's it! Which shows sound good to you? None of them? All of them? Would you watch a show called Wicked City?
