UPDATE: Man found deceased in Abilene motel fire

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A man was found deceased after a fire at an Abilene motel Thursday morning.

The man was found inside a room of the motel on the 3100 block of S 1st Street just before 8:00 a.m.

First responders arrived on scene and found heavy smoke coming from the motel. They quickly got the fire under control, and once they made entry, they found the deceased inside.

His identity is being withheld until his next-of-kin is notified.

Investigators are still working to determine what started the fire, which caused around $25,000 worth of damage, but no foul play is suspected at this time.

Around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, officers with the Abilene Police Department were seen surrounding a room at the motel with their guns drawn.

It’s currently unknown if that room is the same room where the occupant was found deceased.
