Adam Lambert’s Critics Demand His Removal From Singapore New Year’s Eve Show

Adam Lambert has plenty of fans — but apparently plenty of detractors too, in Singapore at least.

An online petition seeking to ban the former “American Idol” contestant from a New Year’s Eve celebration in Singapore has gathered nearly 19,000 signatures.

The petition was launched in protest of Lambert’s headlining slot at Countdown 2016, which according to the petition is “our annual iconic, public event for Singaporeans to come together to celebrate New Year’s Eve , as one.”

The petition takes issue with Lambert’s “active promotion of a highly sexualized lifestyle and LGBT rights, both of which are contrary to mainstream Singaporean values.”

“Allowing Adam Lambert to perform as the star of Countdown 2016 shows disregard for the values of a majority of family-centric Singaporeans who have consistently resisted the promotion of western liberal ideas about family values and societal models,” the petition reads.

The petition’s goal, in addition to removing Lambert from the bill, is to reach 20,000 signatures.

The petition cites Lambert’s 2009 American Music Awards performance, during which he “engaged in sexualized acts, including kissing a male band member, on stage,” as well as a track record of “flagrant disregard for the sensitivities of his audience – including whether or not children are watching.”
