It was speculated that Adele’s third album would shatter sales records upon its release, but it turns out that it straight up demolished all existing marks: The previous opening week sales record for an album in the United States was set by *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached, when it sold 2.42 million copies in the week ending on March 26, 2000. Now, in the sales week ending on November 26, 2015, Adele’s 25 has sold a staggering 3.38 million copies.

The album, which was released on November 20, is the 20th album to sell a million copies in a week, the second to move two million, and the first to sell three million. As Billboard notes, 25 will debut at the top of the Billboard 200 chart dated December 12, making it her second album to debut at No. 1 in the U.S.

25 has also broken the U.K. opening week album sales record, moving 800,000 copies in its first week. The previous record was 696,000 copies by Oasis’ Be Here Now in 1997.

Adele’s previous album, 21, has sold 11.2 million copies in the U.S., but it’s hard to imagine that 25 won’t surpass it, especially considering its non-streaming release (which our editors discussed here).
