    Agco plans to buy GSI Holdings for $940 million

    DULUTH, Ga. (AP) — Agco Corp. will buy GSI Holdings Corp. for $940 million to increase its range of products, the maker of tractors, combines and other farming equipment said Monday.

    The GSI acquisition could help Agco benefit from the growing global demand for grains and food, and is expected to bolster Agco's sales and profitability in North America, the Duluth, Ga., manufacturer said.

    GSI Holdings, based in Assumption, Ill., makes equipment for storing grain and for chicken and pork producers.

    Agco is buying GSI from New York private equity firm Centerbridge Partners LP.

    The purchase will likely add immediately to Agco's earnings and cash flow, the company said.

    The deal is expected to close before the end of 2011.
