Air Canada crew schedulers to strike if ops moved

(Reuters) - Air Canada's unionized crew and in-flight operations schedulers have voted to go on strike if the Canadian airline moved some operations to Toronto.

The Canadian Auto Workers Union Local 2002, which represents 76 in-flight and 46 flight operations crew schedulers, said a deadline for the strike has not been set.

The union has been in negotiations with Air Canada since the summer over the airline's plan to move its scheduling operations from Montreal to a new centre in Toronto.

The airline is also in the midst of discussions with its pilots union. On Tuesday, the airline's pilots said Air Canada had abandoned contract talks, but the country's largest carrier said it was awaiting the union's response to its latest offer.

Air Canada's class A shares closed at C$1.07 on Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Maybe the Head Office should be in Canada as well, instead of a province wining about separating all the time. Should they separate they can get their own Airline and call it Separation Airlines?

Screw Quebec! Shut down the whole airline, disband the union, re-name it and start over again, no wonder everyone in this country drives to the states to fly..........

Shame isn't it? Of course the Company should plan their business around the employee so as not to disturb them in any manner. To hell with costs, smart business and such....just keep the employee happy.....profit/loss or improved business/services don't matter:) Can you do that.....or....will the employee and their union just constantly complain?? Hmmmmmm. Lesson #1....Employees and Unions Do Not Own or Run the Company...they work For the Company for pay.....plus...the employee has the added burden of Paying the Union in the form of Dues....to lose their battles.:) Lesson # 2......if you aren't learning from the current events and the state of Unions today......you will always be complaining and taken advantage of....always. Unions are becoming defunct....and Quickly. Who would ever think your job may move to another location and you just might need to move with it.....unbelievable isn't it? Yep....go on strike....walkout....whatever...that is sure to stop them right? For those who think Unions and employees believe they are "Entitled"....this situation is a Great example!! Don't give me what I want....and I will hold you to ransom. Works well now doesn't it?

It is Air Canada NOT Air Quebec...The majority of AC's business has been in Ontario for over 40 years now..Plus having a national head office in a racist, apartheid like enviroment such as Quebec is just plain bad for business..

Pilots must be looking for another raise by saving money on the shift to Toronto? That or upper management must need another raise.

Just fire them all - so damn demanding and money-grubbing! Just get the people in the place, check their ticket, and go home and be happy.

Air Canada should shut the airline down and reopen under a new name.....in what other industry do the unions bully the owners and the shareholders and get away with it. Financially it makes sense for Air Canada to move the crew sked operations to Toronto, it is a lot more expensive to keep it in Montreal. If the crew schedulers don't like it then quit....there are more than enough people who are willing to take the job. Business is about making money not loosing it. Personally I am tired of the whinning of Air Canada employees you have a job be thankful, you have good salaries, benefits and job security in an unstable econimic time. Take a look at the unemployment rates. At no time should unions dictate to the company where operations should be, what airplanes to fly, or what routes. This isa business. Maybe if these employees spent more time providing customer service and less time complaining the airline would be doing better financially.

So many labour problems at Air Canada... mostly stemming from the pure greed of the airline executives who have filled their own pockets with over $100 in bonuses while they make excuses to employees and the government for not fulfilling their obligations to employee pensions.
Air Canada is rotting... and the rot started at the top.
