Three-time champion Liverpool tied 0-0 at Sparta Prague on Thursday night in their second-round matchup in the Europa League last-16 match, while fellow former winners Ajax, Porto and CSKA Moscow won on the road.

Kenny Dalglish's first European match in charge of the Reds was a dull game. The second leg of the total-goals series is next Thursday.

Ajax, the winner of Europe's second-tier competition in 1992, won 3-0 at Anderlecht 3-0 on goals by Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen and Mounir El Hamdaoui.

Czech forward Tomas Necid scored for 2005 champion CSKA Moscow in a 1-0 victory at PAOK Salonika. Porto beat Sevilla 2-1 on a late goal by Fredy Guarin.
