    Al Franken is an Idiot

COMMENTARY | As the clock ticks down, Obama and his loyal Democrats on Capitol Hill are ramping up the politically motivated fear theater. Obama already threatened to withhold Social Security checks so seniors are sufficiently scared. Nancy Pelosi goes for the global scare mongering tactic by saying: "We're trying to save life on this planet as we know it today." But Al Franken wanted to big. He wanted strike a blow to the most tender spot in the soul of Americans specifically. Al played the 9-11 card.

Al even prepared a few props for his "black humor" skit on the Senate floor.

"About a month ago, the Bipartisan Policy Center briefed members of the House Republican Caucus on the actual implications of the Aug. 2nd deadline -- what we could pay, what we couldn't pay," Franken said. Now, where Obama said there wouldn't be enough money to pay Social Security checks Franken said "we could pay our debt interest, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, vendors for defense projects, and unemployment insurance '" and that's all."

Wait -- didn't Obama say there wouldn't be enough money to send out Social Security checks two weeks ago? Didn't he get the Policy Center memo?

Playing his part in Obama's threat to "take it to the American people" if he had to, Al said if House Republicans refused to give Obama what he wants there would be "no pay for active duty military. No benefits for veterans. No federal loans for low-income students about to head off to college in the fall. No federal government employees, including counter-terrorism agents in the FBI, for example. No border agents. Now before we default, we would have the time to make this sign. And that's just the tip of the iceberg."

Since when does sending out extended unemployment payments take precedent over paying active duty military? Since when does giving a low-income student loan take priority over veteran benefits? Better yet, why does your paycheck come before border security?

Come to think of it, there are a lot of people in Washington getting paid big bucks that no one is talking about. Let's start at the top.

Obama is paid $400,000 a year to be amused when people think he should be more involved. That's almost twice what Joe Biden makes for doing -- whatever he does. Then there are the aides who help Obama do presidential things while he is on the golf course, on another vacation, attending another fundraiser or White House dinner or taking his teleprompter on another stroll down the old campaign trail.

So, how many aides does it take to help President Obama screw in a new, government mandated CFL light bulb? According to the Los Angeles Times, 454 and they will be being paid a total of $37,121,463 this year to do so. What's more, 141 of the 454 earn more than $100,000 a year. Twenty-one of the 141 earn the top-dollar allowed -- $172,200.

Obama's chief of staff, William Daley, is one of the top earners. So is Valerie Jarrett. Valerie's title almost has as many words as she has digits in her paycheck. She's the Senior Adviser and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement.

Coincidentally, Daley is the son of famed former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and brother of the latter Daley. Before Valerie received her lengthy new title she was chief of staff for the latter Daley where she hired an assistant named Michelle Robinson. Michelle went on to become Mrs. Barack Obama. Small world, isn't it?

Then there are Obama's czars, people like Homeland Security Czar: John Brennan, who makes $172,200 a year, and Nancy-Ann DeParle, Obama's health care czar and Urban Affairs Czar Adolfo Carrion Jr., who make $158,500 a year.

Then there is Obama's Pay Czar, Kenneth R. Feinberg. Kenneth who dictates the salaries of the company executives who accepted money from Obama's stash. Remember back in 2009 when the New York Times reported that Feinberg received no compensation telling other people how much money they can make? Treasury documents obtained by Judicial Watch show he made $120,830 worth of "no compensation."

Then there are the mystery people. Did you know there are 41 unidentified staff members in Obama's who owe the Internal Revenue Service $831,000 in back taxes?

That might cover a few of those low-income student loans Al was fretting about.

Al Franken isn't funny. Al Franken is an idiot.

"And that's just the tip of the iceberg."

Man, I get tired of this kind of nonsense, from both sides. Could we have some journalism rather then editorials?

I would prefer to turn my computer on and see the news ,not a bi-partisan attack, from either side. This is not journalism.I do not ask yahoo for the news, yet when they offer,,please make it news, not just someone with their own agendsa rattling on.This kind of "reporting" is partially why Americans are so confused.

Very true Lisa. Now you know how I feel when I turn on any news station. But sadly, it will never ever be real journalism you see from anyone these days.

Why don't we talk about real news, like the FAA funding issue that has already cost the American public 200,000,000 dollars? The Senate has gone on a break with this unresolved, and the total cost to the public may be 1.2 billion?!? All because Our congress wants to fight over a measly 36 million and this lady wants to rant about how much the President gets paid! Peyton Manning and Tom Brady make more PER GAME than the Presidential salary that she's complaining about!

        The Socialist/Democrats control the Senate.
      • James 9 mths ago
Amen! and Dave the Republicans are blocking the measure with the filibuster.

This is all about union busting by the Republicans. They just don't want workers to get a good living wage.

What is wrong with helping make higher education more affordable. The writer of this article probably needs to go to local community collage and take journalism classes this article goes way off topic and jumps around. Terrible...
      • TheHunt4RedNovember 9 mths ago
Where does the article go off topic? She calls Al Franken an idiot and backs up her charge with economic facts about Obama's excessive spending, of which Al seems to have no knowledge when he says there will be "no pay for active duty military. No benefits for veterans. No federal loans for low-income students about to head off to college in the fall. No federal government employees, including counter-terrorism agents in the FBI, for example. No border agents."

Maybe you should go to back to grade school and take a remedial course in reading and comprehension. Embarrassing...

LET'S REVIEW: Which party REFUSED to raise the Debt Ceiling, and said, "LET AMERICA DEFAULT" and go into economic collapse AGAIN, unless we can GUT MEDICARE, KILL SOCIAL SECURITY and get TRILLIONS more in TAX CUTS for the RICH?" Hmmm...

Al Franken is Al Franken. Expecting otherwise is simply moronic.

From this article I glean three baubles. First, as has already been stated in much cleverer fashion, the author paid insufficient attention in English 101A' Second, Yahoo, in permitting the the publication of these poorly formed thoughts under it's imprimatur, has lowered the bar so far we're all in danger of tripping over it. Third, the author is possessed by a barely disguised paycheck envy.

Clearly Ms. Campion would have us believe that these obviously overpaid public servants write their own ticket. In truth, Executive pay in the Federal government is legislatively approved by Congres (reference "Order Code 98-53 GOV" available at the Congressional Research Service website).

I despite crap masquerading as information! And what on Earth does, "Then there is Obama's Pay Czar, Kenneth R. Feinberg. Kenneth who dictates the salaries of the company executives who accepted money from Obama's stash," even mean? The TARP program saw it's genesis in the Bush administration, and Feinberg was a Bush appointee to administer the 9/11 fund. He did such a good job there the Obama administration kept him on to administer the Executive compensation requirements under TARP. Your link out to an FOI response reveals fairly routine employment paperwork but does not however indicate Feinberg accepted any renumeration. Can you show us a pay stub, or even a W2?

Um... you mean to say, US Senator, Al Franken.. is an idiot. Sure, you can have your opinion about the elected Senator from Minnesota. He only represents thousands of folks from his district. Ummm.. how many do you represent, Teahead? Um... were you elected? HAHAHA!
    • Sensible Thinker  •  9 mths ago
HOW ARE YOU TEAHEADS ENJOYING the "2008 BUSH RECESSION?" Oh, you still don't have a job? Don't worry. The Republicans have ALREADY CUT your unemployment benefits and BigBusiness doesn't want to hire you 8 million "deadbeats." Just go ahead and DIE.
    • Kenmandu  •  9 mths ago
Why does Yahoo constantly print this GOP political propaganda and without even the decency to identify who they writer is and what narrow-minded political view they represent and also what-the heck are their credentials... Shame on you Yahoo! This is the third or fourth I have seen recently like Brent Bozell, some conservatives think-tanks (an oxymoron if ever there was one)... Yahoo should be investigated for political posturing and propagnda mongering.
    • Sensible Thinker  •  9 mths ago
THANK YOU, Senator Al Franken for delivering some much needed COMMON SENSE to the radical, absolutely loony, "let America default and nothing will happen" crew that birthed the "2008 Bush Recession" and let 8 million lose their jobs. Talk about the TRAITOR party!

Why isn't the IRS garnishing their pay?
    • Christopher N  •  9 mths ago
Yahoo Contributor? So...that stands for "some #$%$ with a computer", right? It is all well and good to post an opinion, but don't try to represent it as fact, as news, without presenting some sort of evidence. Documentation, any kind of documentation, would be nice here...but then that would be too much like work, and it is so much easier just to spew an opinion and call it a day...
    • hegemon  •  9 mths ago
Actually, Patricia, what he said was he 'could not guarantee Social Security checks would go out'. And that is the complete and total truth. If there had been no deal, Obama would have had NO SAY WHATSOEVER in determining who got paid and who did not. And since he would have NO SAY WHATSOEVER in who got paid and who did not, he could NOT guarantee that the checks would go out. That job would have been left up to the courts, since even the Treasury has NO SAY WHATSOEVER in who got paid and who didn't! So who is the idiot now? Maybe you should read up on a subject before you decide to become a 'contributing editor'. What a lame article.
    • Ron G  •  9 mths ago
So, do you have a point or was this all just about character assassination? Yes, people work for the president. Yes, they get paid. Yes, they get paid far less than comparable jobs in private enterprise. And, yes, as you pointed out implicitly but not explicitly, they would not get paid if the debt ceiling was not extended. So, from what I can figure you are mad at the Democrats for telling the American people a truth you Republicans did not want them to know?
    • A Yahoo! User  •  9 mths ago
Yes he is. He lost credibility when he believed that false accuser in the KBR case. When the truth came out about her case..Al Franken should have resigned.
    • Robert G Ingersoll  •  9 mths ago
Obama did not threaten to withhold SS checks. He said he could not guarantee they would go out on time. Big difference. What other facts are wrong in this article ?
