Supreme Group LLC and BK Entertainment LLC have partnered to help raise money for Alabama residents affected by the series of tornadoes on April 27th 2011. They have brought together some of Alabama’s most talented hip-hop artists for a benefit concert this Sunday, July 10th, to aid the relief effort for Alabama storm victims. In conjunction with the Alabama All Star Car, Bike & Truck Show, the benefit concert will raise money for the victims of severe storm damage. On April 27th, the state of Alabama was impacted by numerous tornadoes, including at least one rated EF5 by the National Weather Service, which left widespread damage across the state. The official death toll in Alabama is listed at 243, with deaths in more than 15 counties. As reported by the Birmingham News, close to $2 billion in claims from tornado damage are expected to be filed in the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa areas alone, according to Robert Hartwig, the president of the Insurance Information Institute.
The Alabama All Star Car, Bike & Truck Show, in its 8th year, which in recent years included a concert, was delayed by the aftermath of the storms. The tornado damage to the areas surrounding Huntsville, AL notwithstanding, the venue itself, the Huntsville Dragway, experienced significant storm damage, ultimately forcing the delay.
This year’s concert was originally slated to be a talent showcase for local artists in Alabama, giving them an opportunity to perform their best songs, as well as a “battle” competition to highlight the skills of the artists. June 18th was the next date targeted but scheduling conflicts forced a venue change. Pondering this, Marcus Orr, President and CEO of Supreme Group LLC, saw the opportunity to aid the storm relief effort by seeking out more established artists to help raise money by performing.
“My brother and I are just glad that the logistics could be worked out because we are excited about and really humbled by the opportunity to help the people affected by the storm” said Kharon Fuqua, also known as Menice, of the group Twizted Bandetz.
