Alabama plant expanding with 75 more jobs

Alabama plant announces $190 million expansion to add 75 jobs

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) -- Thailand-based Indorama Ventures is expanding its Decatur plant and adding 75 jobs.

Gov. Robert Bentley joined Decatur officials for the announcement of the $190 million expansion Friday. The expansion is scheduled to begin later this year and be finished by the end of 2015.

The Decatur plant, called AlphaPET, manufactures materials used in plastic beverage containers. The new part of the plant will be able to produce about 500,000 tons of resins per year. When it opens, the plant's workforce will rise to nearly 200, officials said.

Site manager Yash Aswasthi says the company debated between expanding the Decatur plant or one in Spartanburg, S.C. Bentley says the decision was a compliment to Alabama workers.

Indorama Ventures, headquartered in Bangkok, opened its Decatur plant in June 2010.
